Most of the bikes sold here at Makais.com are approximately 85%+ assembled and carefully packed into multi-layer durable bicycle shipping cartons. Some bicycles are even more assembled (or fully assembled), and sometimes less assembled. Assembly of bicycles purchased generally involves the following: attaching the front wheel, attaching/adjusting handlebars, inflating tires to proper tire pressure, adjusting seat, tightening/adjusting all screws/bolts etc.., and attaching/adjusting fenders/reflectors, if applicable. Some other  assembly may be required, since some bikes have additional accessories or features. Sometimes the wheels on a new bicycle will require some minor truing.

If you are handy with tools and/or bikes, finishing off assembly of your bike should be no problem at all. If you do run into problems, please take your bike to a local bicycle shop for help. Most local bicycle mechanics can help you quickly and for not a ton of money...saving you a headache!

Bike pedals: please know that on our bikes and on most bicycles, the right pedal is right-hand thread, but the left pedal is left-hand (reverse) thread. This means to tighten the left-hand pedal you need to turn counter-clockwise. To tighten the right-hand pedal you need to turn clockwise.

Important Safety Note: for your safety, professional assembly of your bike is recommended! Most local bike shops can complete assembly of your new bike for a small fee, usually this costs averages around $15-$25. We are not responsible for any labor costs you may incur due to paying for professional assembly! We do not advise you to assemble your bike on your own unless you have the required skills and training. Please be advised that you assemble your bike at your own risk. If you do assemble your own bike, you are strongly advised to get a bicycle safety inspection from a local bicycle shop to ensure your bike is safe to ride. Do not ride your bike without first having it inspected or professionally assembled.
